Ingredients:
- 1 whole turkey (12-14 pounds)
- 1/4 cup smoked paprika
- 2 tablespoons garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons onion powder
- 2 tablespoons dried thyme
- 1 tablespoon ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1/2 cup BBQ sauce
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
Tools and Equipment:
- Grill or smoker
- Meat thermometer
- Mixing bowls
- Basting brush
- Aluminum foil
- Roasting pan or disposable aluminum tray
- Carving knife and board
Directions:
- Preheat your grill or smoker to 275°F.
- In a mixing bowl, combine smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, black pepper, and salt. Mix well.
- Rub the spice mixture all over the turkey, making sure to cover every part of the bird.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together olive oil and apple cider vinegar. Use a basting brush to brush the mixture over the turkey.
- Place the turkey in a roasting pan or disposable aluminum tray and pour chicken broth into the bottom of the pan. Cover the turkey with aluminum foil.
- Place the turkey on the grill or smoker and cook for 3-4 hours, or until the internal temperature of the turkey reaches 165°F. Baste the turkey with the juices from the pan every 30 minutes.
- In a small bowl, whisk together BBQ sauce, honey, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Remove the foil from the turkey and brush the BBQ sauce mixture all over the turkey.
- Return the turkey to the grill or smoker and cook for an additional 30 minutes, or until the BBQ sauce is caramelized and the turkey is fully cooked.
- Remove the turkey from the grill or smoker and let it rest for 15-20 minutes before carving.
- Serve with your favorite sides, such as mashed potatoes, green beans, and cornbread.
